More about the event
This event is run by the Rotary Club of Albury North, in partnership with the SS&A Club Albury and The Murray Conservatorium. The aim of the event is to raise funds for the “Wewak Street School MUSIC-ABILITY program”. The program provides music tuition for Wewak students for 12 months.
Our special guest Choral Conductor will once again be the renowned, Jonathon Welch, which we are very excited about. (There was an overwhelming response on our survey from 2018 participants to have Jonathon return for a second year.
In 2019 the festival has a bigger and better format opening up the opportunity for a wider cross section of the community to be involved.
Border Public Schools’ Choral Day
Friday 2 August local public school students will have the opportunity to be involved in workshops with Jonathon.
The school will host a vibrant day of workshops open to all local public schools to help raise funds for the “Wewak Street School MUSIC-ABILITY program”. The program provides music tuition for Wewak students for 12 months.
Murray Conservatorium is partially funded by the NSW Department of Education to deliver quality music programs to schools. The engagement of such a high calibre conductor is an exciting opportunity for the regional public school students who will be involved. Participants are expected to include public school students, Murray Conservatorium Youth Council members and a youth refugee choir.
PUBlic Choir @ St Ives

Testimonials

“Jonathon is a truly gifted, passionate and engaging conductor, professional and very practical. I have been privileged to participate in two of his workshop programmes, both locally and for the Melbourne International Singers Festival. My then 12 year old daughter and I did a wonderful workshop with Jonathon in Wodonga a few years ago when he toured with his Choir of Hard Knocks. It was an inspiring experience on so many levels and served to further spark her and my love of singing. From start to finish he shared helpful and very insightful tips and exercises for getting the best sound from the workshop participants. Our unforgettable Melbourne International Festival experience was truly amazing: Jonathon expertly taught plus organised other talented conductors who, together led the massed choirs at Fed Square for rehearsal and then wonderful concert performances. We’ll be back for more from this fabulous musical legend- don’t miss out Albury singers!”
Catherine, a former workshop participant
I am a long time admirer of Jonathon’s work and have not only been inspired to use some of his material and song choices with my students in various schools but also enjoyed his appearances and critiques on ‘Battle of the Choirs’ years ago! I have travelled to Melbourne to see a concert in the Melb Town Hall to hear the fabulous Choir of Hard Knocks and totally admire his work.
